Someone asks to borrow a tool or a piece of equipment. You are willing, but you expect to use it next weekend. Without a return arrangement, you may end up asking repeatedly for something you already own.
Check when the person needs it and say when you need it back. Include any accessories and instructions that matter for using it safely. If you cannot lend it for the requested period, explain the shorter period you can offer.
Record the ordinary details
A quick message can confirm the item and return date. For valuable or unfamiliar equipment, discuss what to do if it is damaged or does not work as expected. Use the manufacturer's instructions where the item requires particular care.
Near the return date, arrange where the handover will happen rather than waiting for an uncertain drop-off. If lending repeatedly causes difficulty, you can decide to stop offering that item. You can still help someone find another option without agreeing to a loan you no longer feel comfortable making.
