A friend asks you to pick something up with your car. You want to help, but the collection point is across town and the item may not fit. Saying yes before checking those details can turn an ordinary favour into a difficult afternoon.
Ask where the item is, when collection is possible and how large it is. Include the return journey and any waiting time when deciding whether you can do it. If another person needs to be present, confirm their availability too.
Offer the version you can manage
You might be able to collect it on your existing route or help load it into someone else's vehicle. Say what works and what the friend needs to arrange. Check any costs that either of you expects the other to cover.
If you agree, keep the address and contact details together. When the circumstances change, revisit the offer before setting off. You do not need an elaborate justification to explain that a different item or location changes what you can reasonably do.
