The weekend looks generous until shopping, visits and chores take their places. By Sunday evening, there may have been no period when you could decide what you wanted to do.
Before filling the next weekend, mark one stretch as open. It can be an hour or an afternoon, depending on your obligations. Keep essential care, paid work and shared commitments visible so that the open time is realistic.
Agree on what is flexible
If you share a household, explain which part you hope to leave unplanned and ask what others need. Open time for one person can otherwise become extra work for another. Decide together which chores must happen and which can move.
When the stretch arrives, you may rest, go out or choose a task you feel ready to do. Leave yourself that choice. If an unexpected responsibility uses it up, see whether another small gap remains instead of declaring the weekend ruined. Next week, use what happened to choose a better protected period or a more modest amount of open time.
