A routine created for a particular project can continue long after the project finishes. You keep updating a record because it is familiar, even though nobody uses it.
When starting a temporary practice, note what it is for and when you will review it. The review can follow a deadline, event or a few repetitions. Decide what information would tell you to continue, revise or stop.
Close it deliberately
At the review, look at actual use. If the routine is complete, file the useful results and remove recurring reminders. If it still helps, choose a new purpose or review point rather than keeping it automatically.
Tell anyone affected by the change, especially if they expect a regular update. A routine can have done its job and still be ready to end. Keeping a short closing note helps you recognise why it stopped if a similar need returns later. You can reuse the useful parts without inheriting the whole old schedule.
