A long appointment consumes the morning. You come home and try to complete the entire day's list in the remaining afternoon, moving from task to task without finishing much.
Pause long enough to check the commitments still fixed in time. Then choose what can fit around them. Move optional work deliberately and tell anyone whose expectation needs to change. An overdue task may need a new arrangement before it needs another rushed attempt.
Keep one useful outcome
Choose a task you can finish or advance to a clear stopping point. Include the preparation it needs. If the available time is very short, sending the necessary question may be more useful than opening a large project.
At the end of the day, note why the delay happened only if that helps a future plan. Some delays are unusual and need no new system. If the same appointment regularly takes longer, change the estimate next time. Leave tomorrow's list based on its own available hours, rather than simply carrying over every item that missed today.
