You choose a course or a project direction and then reconsider it whenever a new option appears. Sometimes reconsideration is useful. Sometimes you are repeating the same comparison because you did not keep the reasons behind the first choice.
Record the options you seriously considered and the reason you chose one. Include the important constraint at the time, such as a schedule or requirement. Keep the note short enough that you will actually read it.
Reopen the decision for a specific reason
When doubt returns, ask whether something relevant has changed. A new timetable or requirement may justify another look. An attractive advertisement may simply remind you that other options exist.
If there is new information, add it to the note and review the choice. If there is no material change, continue long enough to learn from the option you selected. Set a review date when that would help. The record supports your judgement without turning an earlier decision into a rule you can never change.
