When work is always available, the evening can begin in fragments. You close the laptop, check a message on your phone and reopen a document while dinner is cooking.

Choose a stopping time that fits your responsibilities. Before it arrives, write down what is unfinished and the next action for tomorrow. If you are waiting for a genuine deadline, decide what must be completed tonight and what can still wait.

Close the working surface

Put away the tools you do not need for the evening, or close the work window if the same device is also your television or reading screen. Tell people who rely on your availability when you will respond again, subject to your role's agreed requirements.

If stopping at the chosen time repeatedly fails, review the cause. An unrealistic workload needs a different conversation from an optional habit of checking messages. Adjust the plan accordingly. On a day when work must run late, acknowledge the change and choose a new ending so that the rest of the night does not stay available by default.
