A small recurring payment can be easy to overlook because its name is unfamiliar on the statement. Several months later, you may still be paying for a service you stopped opening.

Review a recent statement and identify recurring charges you cannot explain. Check the merchant through your own records or the provider's official site. If a charge looks unauthorised, use your bank's official support channel rather than links from an unexpected message.

Keep a cancellation record

For a service you decide to end, check the cancellation terms and save the confirmation. Note whether access stops immediately or at the end of a paid period. Review the following statement to confirm the arrangement took effect.

Keep services that you use or deliberately value, including those shared with someone else. Ask before cancelling a household subscription another person relies on. If you keep a renewal, record its purpose and next review date. You do not need to investigate every familiar payment each month; begin with the ones whose purpose you cannot currently name.
