A new notebook can invite a long search for the ideal layout. You compare formats while the thought you wanted to record waits elsewhere.
Create a page with the minimum structure you need: a date, a topic or a short question. Use it for the next actual note before deciding on a complete system. The page can change as you discover what you write there.
Review the use
After a few entries, notice what you wanted to find again. A small index or a topic heading may help more than a detailed daily layout. Add that feature where it solves a retrieval problem.
Keep unused design ideas on a separate page if you enjoy them. They do not all need to become requirements for the next entry. If the notebook is primarily for a project, keep relevant records together and protect private information appropriately. A useful page can be untidy and still do its job, especially when the purpose is to preserve a thought rather than display a finished piece of work.
