You finish practising a piece of music midway through a difficult passage. A week later, you spend the opening minutes finding the passage and remembering what was wrong.
Before stopping, mark the place and the question you were working on. Record the next action in plain language. For a document, leave the paragraph to revise; for a lesson, note the exercise number and the part that needs another attempt.
Keep the note brief
A handover should take less time than restarting without it. Use a sentence, bookmark or annotation that you will naturally see. Avoid writing a full report after every modest session.
On return, read the note and check whether the next action still makes sense. If you have learned something elsewhere, adjust it. After a few sessions, notice which details you regularly need to recover and include those. You can also leave the required tool ready where it is safe to do so. The handover helps a break in time feel less like starting the whole practice again.
